“It Don’t Get More Country Than Me”

by songwriter Jason Frye I wrote this on a Sunday afternoon after being inspired by a comment made by a local musician, Todd Walker, at a performance of his the night before. I knew exactly what I wanted to say in this song, but just couldn’t get the words in the right order … so I decided to take a break and walk downtown for a couple beers. As I’m walking, the song began writing itself in my head – but I also had to suddenly go to the bathroom. Badly. In an effort to salvage the song, my pride and my pants, I ran into the bathroom of a nearby gas station. I’m in there for like ten minutes, just sitting there, writing these silly lyrics down on paper — and then there is a knock at the door. I say “hold on” but they knock again. I finally gather my things, open the door, and there is a group of about 5 or 6 women standing there, all of them crossing their arms and all of them staring at me with a strong sense of disapproval. Thinking to myself that there *had* been something just … “different” about this particular bathroom, I look over my shoulder to see a sign on the door that said “Women.” I had been so preoccupied with holding onto what was in my head and my stomach that, by accident, I had walked right into the womens’ bathroom without knowing it … … and wrote a decent part of this tune while I was in there … I hope you like it ;) Well I was born in the back of an old sedan When my mom was just thirteen With a hound up front and a rifle in the back And a
