I fell in love with these boots in an unsolicited Athleta catalog (a mom can dream, right?) & vowed I would do something for myself and order them. Of course, $195 was a little steep, esp. considering I am a mother of three. Amazon, as always, had the best pricing ($132!), etc. So I debated whether I wanted black or brown. Black matches everything, but I wanted something different (I think all my shoes are black or gray), so I ordered the brown ones. I was pretty excited having treated myself & waited impatiently all of only 2 days for them to arrive (I love Amazon!). So anyway, I try them on, and I’m almost in tears (I know…). Here’s the deal: these boots are cheaply constructed in China (what isn’t these days, but really, at this price range… Really?) Most of the back of the boot isn’t even the matching brown leather – it’s gray wool-like fabric! The bottom looks to have minimal traction, also (Boots…winter…snow…). Despite all this, I am determined I will love these boots once I try them on. Oh, wait, they are way too tight! Wow! I struggle to get them on & realize this is all just an exercise in futility. The footbed is squeezing my feet & the upper part of the boot, which looks like lacing at the back, is only for show – it doesn’t untie to loosen around the calf. Here, I would like to note that I am normally a 7-7 1/2, depending on the shoe, and ordered an 8 so I’d have room for socks. Also, I’m no supermodel, but at 5’6″ & 140 lbs. these should not have been so tight around the calf. I’m actually flabbergasted. Over a pair of shoes. Now my floor is covered in crayon, so I will end the rant. If I have saved one unsuspecting soul from wasting their time & money on these boots, I will have justified the length of time it took to write this review. On the other hand, if you are freakishly rail-thin & usually have a problem with shoes being too big, these may be fabulous for you. I’m not sure they’re intended for real, live women though.
