This is a 9 minute condensed version of a 45 minute documentary William Allum made back in 2008. Taking a brief look at the wave of Japanese horrors, and how they captivated Western audiences. Below is the original synopsis: Horror In Japan, looks at how the genre has transcended cultures as well as the beginnings of J-Horror in Japan, its influences and how it portrays and challenges Japanese society and culture. Aimed at true horror fans and reflecting on films they know and love, while at the same time hoping to inform them of something new. The documentary should also appeal to people with little knowledge, and hopefully spark an interest. With interviews from leading experts in the genre, both critics and directors, along with TV personalities that bring their own more light-hearted input, Horror in Japan is both critical and entertaining. Talking to the people who really know about these films, including Shimizu Takashi, director of Ju-on and the American remake The Grudge, and film critic Jasper Sharp, editor of the Japanese film review website www.midnighteye.com
